Even if it's hard, you have to try not to look at what these people get. And if she starts saying where she got her stuff, you can try to make it clear to her through your words and body language that you just don't want to know that is tmi. And just try to limit contact if you can.

So we need to make peace that this is it & nothing will change. |
The new Trump tax plan is increasing the tax returns for the poor.

staying on your original post (though you seem fed up with everything)... you don't like the way that the Skver community allocates resources - don't give them money.
not all tzeakkos are handing out premium food items to able bodied people.
with regard to schools... if parents with more means don't give a little extra, then the entire school would close - and everyone losses. When you pay your tuition - you are supporting your direct community. Your kids are better because you do that..
Do you need to support fundraisers at other schools? No. Find somewhere else for your dollars to go if it makes you happier.
Aside from that - the US tax and welfare system is a completely different discussion.

You obviously are not aware of Rockland County finances, NY politics , and the history of New Square.
We pay the second highest tax rate in the nation! That's significant because the whole county isn't lifted up. It goes right to supporting people who don't work on the books.
You need to look at beginnings of the village were financed. The highest level of the US government (Clintons) was involved in the pardons. We continue to see this exact behavior when the FBI raided the schools recently.
You need to look at the continuing financing. A good example was how a public school was taken from public school children who need it and given at severe discount to Square girls. The tax payers were robbed.
These are not folks who started on a level playing field and decided to take from their own resources and give to others in their community.

So who is funding the expensive care packages in that community if most don’t work?
Op, that does sound very frustrating and I don’t understand it either.

[Edited out] ...I think we are going off tangent. You are talking about one small community here. Majority of tzedaka organizations are providing the needs and not extras, for the most part.

The Rebbe does have major donors, but he also has extremely poor supporters who give him their 10%. [...Edited out]

Baffles me always why people choose to live in a neighborhood where they feel like they are being robbed.
the second highest taxes you referenced is property taxes.
there is no data to support that people in your county pay the highest total taxes (all-in property, income, sales).

I can't argue with people who won't take responsibility for their words. I know what I wrote, and I know where you are wrong.
Use your SN if you want to engage.

It is forbidden to speak the truth?
I stand by what I say about the table. I also stand by what I say about the poor supporting him. I don't see the controversy. Please explain where I am wrong.

Calling someone names doesn't change the truth of their words.
You can probably look at most religious (not just Jewish) leaders and see similar patterns in the flow of money. It goes upstream. The leaders live a lifestyle that their supporters can only imagine.

I'm more bothered by the fact of all luxury items kimcha d'pischa is giving out. It sets a certain standard. |
Are u aware that one of the Halachas on the Tzedaka is that the poor people must be supported according to the lifestyle they were accustomed to? Are u saying they should be further shamed by being given disgusting, cheap food? What is it that bothers u about this? U should look inside yourself and see where this envy is coming from. And believe me, as well as u think u know them, u don’t know everything about them and people tend to hide illnesses, especially emotional, or other issues they’re not proud of. Chill out and mind your own business, you’ll be healthier and happier. AND DON’T FORGET: Hashem gives each person what He decides is good for their Neshama and no one can take away what’s meant for u and vice versa. If u don’t have what they do, it means He decided u don’t need it.

Why is it so hard to understand why the OP is upset?
It's like going to college for 6 years to get a good job, graduating with a masters, and then seeing that your friend who never even enrolled was just handed a PHD along with a starting position at double your salary.
Of course you would be outraged!
And it does no favors to the poor or the greater community either.
When the poor become accustomed to living an upper class lifestyle, the level of expectation in the community as a whole goes up. After all, this is the expected base line now.
Not to mention, it's a lot harder to climb out of poverty if you have unrealistic spending expectations.

My judgements inform me what's valuable to me. If I'm judging someone as being not farginning, it informs me that generosity is a valuable thing to me. If I judge someone as being lazy, it informs me that I value the opposite of lazy. Whatever my judgment is, it informs me that I value the opposite of the judgment.
And I think it's brave of you to share your thoughts, and I wish there was more tolerance, and a seat at the table, for anything that wants to be expressed, heard, received with care. |
Actually you’re quite wrong and the opposite is true. The Torah teaches that when something in another person bothers us, it means that person is like a mirror of ourselves, and we ourselves are guilty of the same bad Midda!
