My sil has always been there for us. She has been babysitting for us for years withour pay and she's always available when I need her help.
She's leaving this week to teach in China for the year.
I'd really like to buy her something so tell her how much we appreciate her and that we are thinking of her when she goes.
Anyone have any ideas of what to give?
She's a 21 year old single girl.

how about a day out together for her and you, or her and a friend, for a pampering type day (the whole manicure type thing) ending with a supper out at a restaurant and a small spiritual type gift of a sefer or something.
plus homemade cards from the kids that she can take with her and post up in her room.

my kids did make cards, and I framed a picture of the 3 of them for her to take with. The day out sounds nice (if not for her, then for me) but truthfully with 3 kids home and no schoool, I dont think thats happening.
Any other ideas?

First, it may sounds corny but it's something cheap and she might like it... have your kids make a tape for her... saying what they love about her, what they liked to do with her etc etc. Or you could make some sort of booklet with pics of the kids and the same stuff - what they liked to do with her etc.
Also if she is a teacher (you said she was going to teach in China) I think there is a "tfillah lmorah" that I found around somewhere. I've seen it printed on various types of things - mugs, pic frames etc

That tape idea sounds cute... do I still have a tape recorder somewhere? I'll have to look.

And does she have one is another good question.
Hey... I dont know how much you want to spend, but you could always get her a walkman or CDman type thing, and give along the tape/cd with it (though that can really get expensive).

I could have wrote that post.
My sil is going away for school and I wanted to get her something too. She is very into hairdos. I am buying her everything she needs to do them. Curlying irons, blow dryer, and curlers.

I don't know about your sil but when I was single I didn't have a lot of jewellery. that's all I wanted.
why not buy her a nice piece of jewellery (doens't have to be soo soo expensive) and it's a piece that she'll always have and remember you guys by?
