Theoretical:
If your children didn't have access to yeshivah but lived in an observant home, what is the single most important text you would want them to learn (for boys and girls) for life? (and couldn't be Talmud).

I think Musser מיסור. It basically covers good middos, emuna & betachon.

The most important thing would be that they know all halachos relevant to them

Why does it have to be only one?
But in that scenario, I agree with crust. Chumash. Halachos you can learn just from living life, or you can call a Rav.

Perhaps, Sefer Hatodah, it educates on mitzvos and yom tovim and the reasons behind them.

Chumash, for sure. Mussar and Halacha don't need to be learned from a Sefer- if the child is growing up in a forum home with very chinch-minded parents, the other things will come through from the home because they make sure of it.
