I tried everything to remove them, but they only came off the back, not the sides. Will every load now get pen on it?

Try running a load of light-colored shmattehs and see what happens. What did you use to try to remove the marks?

don't dry it with anything ... and if you dry it ... the stain will become permanent with no hope of removal ...
