Centipedes! Ew! Help!

My apartment complex has a problem with them apparently (I've asked all my neighbors who all have the same problem!). I keep finding these awful looking bugs everywhere! Tiny ones, bigger ones, and even bigger yet! They're awful. I kill them each time (or have DH do it Very Happy

) and they keep showing up. I know they're not dangerous (well unless they bite you, and then it's like a bee sting- so I've read) but ew!! And from what I've read they like to hide in shoes and laundry baskets and beds! Yikes! My husband thinks I'm a little wacky but I sleep with the bed a few inches off the wall because I've looked up and the wall over my head and seen a centipede sitting there one too many times!

Now, the point of this thread is not too complain (though, ah, that felt good). The real point is: HOW DO I GET RID OF THEM!?!?!? Especially since it's the whole complex, not just my apartment!

Pictures are on the right. I get more of the ones on the far right (though I've had the other kind too). They're like brownish color kind of...

can you speak to your building maintenance about it? I know our complex hired an exterminator once a week to go to whoever requests.

Called maintenance. Nothing can really be done because it's an old, yicky building (well, they're all old and yicky). The weather also affects it- like in the winter BA"H there was not such a bad problem. I know they eat bugs and aren't dangerous, they just look scary...and I can't sleep peacefully at night knowing it might be crawling on me!

When we moved in we had coackroaches - all sizes and all kinds, we could not get rid them because the new armies of them came from neighbors every time we eliminated the local population. And now there is none, since we have got a CAT 8)
The cat does not eat them - she just kills them and somehow threatens the others because they simply do not come!

noooooooooo! not any more! at the beginning she killed some and I found them, yes, but now (for amlost 6 years) I've not found a single one!

hi I came accros this post, I know its old but maybe someone will read it.
I totaly understand, I also have centipedes and moved my bed away from the wall!!
did you end up getting rid of it? I am still trying but dont know how!

I think I tried once boric acid but the problem is that its not safe for us and for kids and sinds I have a cute little one she gets all over so I will not put it out again. Vinigar? that kills them? where would I put that, I all the corners??

the problem is I am too scared to kill them, Sad

they just discust me. I dont know if you ever saw the big size once but they are really big and scary. so they end up going somewhere else (besides if my husband is home but that is usualy not the case).

well ... I personally do not like to be a murderer so I mostly don't kill critters but rather bring them outside ... there is always the exception though - and I would much rather know they are not under my bed in some unknown space waiting to crawl up my leg ...
