I recently got a gift card to a Judaica store. I'd like to purchase a couple of new cookbooks and am looking for recommendations.
I like cookbooks that are "heimish " yet varied with flavors and spices.
No exotic ingredients etc...
I love the Bais Yakov cookbook, and use that the most often.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Kosher By Design series - maybe not so "heimish" but includes all the classics with a fresh, elegant touch.

If you're looking for kosher cookbooks, Aromas of Aleppo is beautiful. It's one of those big cookbooks with full color pictures, written by a Syrian Jewish woman. A good general cookbook is A World of Jewish Cooking, by Gil Marks. It's a general book, so lots of varied recipes, often with a little blurb about where they come from. If you're like me and cook more dairy then meat, you might also like Olive Trees and Honey by the same author. There's some overlap, though, so I don't think I'd necessarily get both.

The dining in, balabuste's choice and fresh and easy cookbooks sound like they would work for you.

I always preferred the Balabusta's Choice (the first one with the green cover) over any others...

I use the Bais Yakov and Fresh & Easy the most often and for everyday suppers. I have also used some recipes from Chic made Simple, Balabusta 2, Dining in Again
I got almost the entire set of Kosher By Design as a gift and almost never used it. Most recipes have ingredients that I dont have and use tons of ingredients. The few things I did make I didnt love.

balabusta 1 is also great, as is the purple cookbook. I hate weird ingredients, my husband and I have a running joke about coriander....
