Umm.. excuse my ignorance, but what on earth is wrong with taking a pen/pencil/crayon/marker and writing on a scrap of paper,
milk
cheese
bread
chicken?
Was that so difficult?

The problem with the scrap of paper is that it is very easy to lose, or to mix up with a previous or different one, and more clumsy to share remotely.
I happen to use the paper method myself but for people who are smartphone-savvy I do see the advantage.

I forgot to cancel my amazon subscription for diapers.
I can't remember where I put my last baby...
I heard they redid the labor and delivery wing at the hospital and I can't wait to see what they've done.
