What's it made out? Because depending on what the dish is made out of, is what you can use to clean it...

First try scrubbing with plain baking soda as a scouring powder. Just pour it on, add a bit of water, and scrub. If that doesn't work, bleach, either staright or diluted, should do the trick. This will do for plastic, glass, ceramic or corelle. Do not try this on silver or aluminum.

Try the Magic Eraser sponge - this gets everything off! Do you have these American cleaning supplies in Israel?
If not, try rubbing it with half a lemon and letting it sit for an hour before washing off.
Good luck!

I don't think you mentioned what kind of dish it was, but I know that when I make carrot salad in the food processor and the white plastic part gets stained with orange, I get rid of the orange stains by rubbing oil on it. so..if its a plasticy kind of dish, trying rubbing oil on it.

nothing happened. I tried everything, seperately and altogether, soaking it and not, and the stains are still there. I'm hoping they were there before she gave it to me. I'll find out tonite when I return it.

was it a ceramic dish with crazed (cracked) glazing? if so, the stain may have seeped into the cracks and under the glaze, in which case nothing will get it out. You would know, though, b/c it would look darker in the cracks.
