just made a big pot of delicious veggie soup, pureed it and realized I didnt remove the bay leaf! I did a search online and it says its not poision, but am looking for some "been there done that you'll be fine" reassurance, as I am having a bowl of the soup right now! anyone?

Since you can buy ground bay leaves, I don't see why this would be a problem. As long as it tastes okay.

I think levana kirschenbaum talks about crushed bay leaf as a spice that you pour onto food.
It's totally edible and delicious!

I should add that the only reason we tend to pull them out before eating is because they're hard to swallow--not because they're poisonous. Otherwise, there's no reason not to eat them.

thats what I was reading online that we pull them out because the pieces can tend to be sharp and scratchy to throat/stomach etc but its ground up so small I dont think its a concern. BH because it'd be a shame to waste a whole batch of soup!
thanks for the replies

I've been there and done that. As far as I know, it never made us sick.

I use ground bay leaves. How many did you grind up? I found it best to only use a little.

it was probably about 1/2 a bay leaf, the pack is almost empty so there wasn't a whole one left. dont think it affected the taste of the soup. I had a bowl for lunch.

I used to be able to get ground bay leaf in a small jar like other spices. I loved using it in this form but haven't seen in here in years. The texture was powdery.
The danger, as others said, is that the leaf is sharp and can cause abrasions in the throat and digestive track. it has to be ground very fine to be safe.
I'm actually impressed that your blender/processor was able to grind it so small. It's a tricky thing to do.
