I am going through some confusion about our current place of residence, I would just like to hear some of your opinions of your place! Please share the good and the bad!!

I live in a place where it's very easy to be as frum as you want - BROOKLYN, NEW YORK!!! ok, the weather is as tempermental as a true new yorker, but you can't beat brooklyn for practicing judaism. in fact, you'll probably encounter more animosity from other jews than from the few non jews who live here.

because it just IS! In every place a person lives there are always pros and cons a person can't always like the place where they live to the fullest. correct me if I am wrong please?

As a Lubavitcher, I was taught to choose my place of residence not where I will be more comfortable, but where I am needed and can do the most good. And my place of residence certainly fits that criteria.

I also got here as the posters before me, but once I am here already let me comment on my city:

nature, weather, affordable living, kosher food, kosher dining, trips and adventures, diversity, nice people.

Frumn communities of every sect, kosher shops, restaraunts, cafes, bakeries, communtiy helping each other, easy access to public transport (not like they turn up on time).
Cons, goldfish bowl syndrome.

I live in Brooklyn too and am not enjoying it as much as you I gather.

To have to get all made up every time I step out of my house is much to much work, for the ever exciting stroll up and down 13th Avenue!

I wanted to go today to the playground and then rethought the whole process and played in the yard instead 8)

timeout, I suspect that ur attitude would follow u wherever u lived. I have no problem going onto 13th avenue, or madison avenue for that matter, with or w/o makeup. and no, I dont own a fur coat (GASP!!) and yes, I feel perfectly comfortable going to the grocery store in my houseclothes - be they a short robe, long robe, or skirt n' top.

First off I guess u don't live in my neighborhood, I live quite a distance walking from 13th.

Secondly I guess you're not an out of towner like I am and am used to a certain way of people laid back NICE, extremely friendly....

Thirdly I'm guessing your husband is not in Hatzolah, as part of the rules of being in Hatzolah your wife has to be dressed a certain way at all times and most people in Boro Park know my husbands family and expect them to a certain way.

Just to name a few things, but when we are in Philly or any other placethe stress and family obligations seem to wear off.

Since though u mentioned the robe I guess you're a BP born and bred.

Do you mind elaborating? I find this so interesting. Is this relating to tsnius or just mode of dress? Is this actually an official rule of Hatzolah? What if someone is a good paramedic, but his wife doesn't dress appropiately?

I didn't know hatzalah had to be married men. I wonder why.
Also why does it matter how you dress? He isn't a Rabbi in which people will then look up to you as a Rabbi's wife. Also Timeout what would happen if you just decided one day you really don't care what people think and went out without makeup on>?

the married men bit (if its true) makes perfect sense 2 me, as theyll b touching women and seeing them in less-than-tsniusdik situations shock

My husband was actually in Queens Hatzolah before we were married but in Boro Park all Hatzolah members must be married for tznius reasons (my husband already delivered 3 babies). Bor Park is the only place I know that has such strict rules.

The makeup thing has nothing to do with Hatzolah just Boro Park in general. But there is a good thing about Boro Park the standard of tznius is very high and is upheld.

The reason why Boro Park wives of Hatzolah members have to dress a certain waiy is to uphold the standards of the community tznius and otherwise, if the hsuband for example would be doing something he shouldn't or act irresponsibly he would be thrown out of Hatzolah.
