WASHING PILLOWS (how?)

I have this long 'body pillow' which I use while pregnant to help me be more comfortable in bed. I should have had a (custom) pillow case sewn for it originally, however now, after the fact..... HOW DO I WASH IT IN THE MACHINE?

Instructions actually say not to wash it.... but come on... there has got to be a way to wash, esepcially as aside from it's shape- it is a regular pillow.

I also have a $10 body pillow from Sears. I wrapped it around the middle thing of the machine and washed it! came out fine (I think I almost broke the machine though!).

When drying, put in a tennis ball or a canvas sneaker in the dryer, to help the down or filling distribute all over.

You could possibly clean it with one of those dry cleaning sheets that they tell you to put in the dryer. I don't know for sure, but its worth a try.

you might want to get a cover for it, if you aren't going to wash it.

if the pillow had only cost $10, I'd throw it away and just buy it anew..... but it cost $40.
How do people wash regular pillows??????

What is it stuffed with? If its down, it could go to the dry cleaners.

To wash pillows I fill my bathtub with warm soapy water and put the pillow in. I agitate a bit and soak. Then I drain and rinse a couple times (refilling the tub with more warm water). I have tried machine-washing pillows, but they usually come out lumpier than I like. I line dry the pillow after washing it.

my pillow is not that wide, but very long. Probably about 8 (?) feet long. I'd be afraid to put in machine..... will have to try the bath tub. thanks for all your responses.

I used to have lumpy down coats after washing, the tennis ball or canvas sneaker did the trick.

bring it to the laundromat and use one of their gigantic machines that are open in front ... then dry in your own dryer with the 2 tennis balls ...

I also have really long body pillow that I never purchased a pillowcase for. I just put a regular case on each end (matching ones) and then use safety pins in the center where the 2 cases meet.

I'm tall.... and the pillow is longer than me.
but for shorter pillows not a bad idea Idea
