I was just at a wedding and during chuppa, my not yet 2 year ran into the aisle in front, started clapping, and said "yay!!"
She squeezed through a bunch of people to get there and I couldn't fit through them to get to her. My DH, who was standing by the chuppah for a bracha, had to come down and get her. I thought it was cute, but DH was sooo embarassed!

at a cousins chupa, while hall all quiet... my DD also called out across the hall (as she saw my husband) "Abba Abba....!"
As you could imagine I (together with dd) got out of the chupa room mighty fast!

Dh was reading the kesubah at his sisters chasuna when my 22 month old daughter ran up the stairs to the chuppah yelling, "Abba, Abba!"

I dont think this story is cute, as a mother you have to be more careful with your child not to disrupt the chupah, some mothers think its adorable and they laugh how cute it is, I think its outright dumb on the mothers part...

I wouldnt take along such a young child to a place where he has to behave, such as a chupah. Either have a babysitter/relative watching him in a different room, or I wouldnt bring him at all.

So sorry you don't think it's cute. Actually, everyone thought my daughter was absolutely adorable! Including her aunt and new uncle! (The most important people as they were the chosson and kallah...we ARE supposed to make THEM happy, right?) My sil and bil wanted my daughter at thre wedding. She brought smiles, not looks of annoyance or irritation, to everyone, Even today, 7 years later, it's still a cute family story.! The pictures that someone took of her going up to my husband and standing next to him are priceless!

I dont think kids belong there, and if they are there they should be taken care of properly.

Each situation has it's own concideration.
However in general, yes, young kids if present should be kept at the back to minimize disturbances, if any.

I have seen mothers taking their wild little ones to a beauty salon while they were getting Brazilian -wax.
They are different kind of mothers.what can you do?
What looks "normal" to me ,does not look normal to other ppl.

Cute story. I think that family can appreciate a little kid doing something like this at a wedding.

If this happened during my own chuppah, I would have thought that it was funny and cute. Yes, the chuppah is a serious time, but children are children and I personally wanted close family members/friends children at my wedding.
Adults shouldn't take themselves so seriously. Children bring laughter into our lives....appreciate them!

It's one thing if a child is screaming and crying, throwing a huge temper tantrum. It's another if a child is being really cute and does something so adorable that it makes everyone smile!

I think its cute...I agree with the poster who wrote there is a difference between a kid throwing a fit and a kid doing something cute...especially when you are such close family. My mother and I got into a big fight before my wedding about allowing babies, I wanted them there and my mom didnt...maybe it is a generation thing. At my brother's wedding this summer DD will be 9 months and so I am hiring a babysitter for the day who hopefully can bring her in at appropriate times.

I dont post too often but had to share my thougts (ventings!) on this one:
at our wedding, there were LOTS of kids- our neices and nephews and of course we loved most parts of having them there. With several notable (admittedly extreme) exceptions:
1- under our chupah. even if its their very own aunt and uncle, kids dont belong under the chupah. I remember trying to focus on all that I wished to pray for in those few precious minutes and being interrupted by peeking neices and nephews (peeking up through under my veil...) who just joined the family under the chupah and whose parents thought it was 'cute'.
2-dancing. of course kids need to dance with the kallah but a five year old who grabs and tugs at the kallah's skirt when shes trying to dance with her mother in laws friends is NOT CUTE. her mother should have taken her away but (in her words) it was the highlight of her life and how could she do that to her???
3-ok I saved the most extreme example for last: At our Chupah, my neices marched down in their pretty little dresses holding pretty baskets of rose petals. now this was all very unfair, apparently, to my 3 yr old nephew , who wanted to march down too and whose favorite toy was a bright yellow oversized stuffed tweety bird. SO (with his mothers encouragement) HE WALKED DOWN THE AISLE ( to solemn wedding music...) HOLDING A BRIGHT YELLOW TWEETY BIRD. When I saw the pics I was horrified. There is a time and a place!!!! Of course its a detail, it doesnt matter but it really bothered me and all these years later, it still does!!!
Had to vent!! Thanks for listening

LOL. Actually, I thought the first two were the bad ones. The third one sounds hilarious!

And yeah, I also think the tweety one is adorable and hilarious.
It will do everyone well to lighten up and see the humor in everything instead of getting ANNOYED!

At my Chupah (mind u I had no idea it was happening, I was just told about it later) my then 2 year old brother, who is totally a Tatty's boy ran over to the Chupah and lay down in front of my father as we were going round.
I wish it was on the video!

I don't necassarily think it's adorable.. I don't think it's bad either..
but I don't think there's anything wrong with bringing along kids.
especially if they are close family...
and to tell a mother to make sure her child behaves.. sorry, but kids are kids.. we can't force them not to talk.. theyre just kids..

It's hard when there are a bazillion people people standing in front by the chuppah and a tiny kid squeezes through while you turn around to tend to your baby for one second.
And she was in the front because she had walked down the aisle at the request of the kallah, and it was too crowded to take her to the back afterwards.
I'm gonna see the kallah this weekend. I'll apologize and I'll find out if she minded it or thought it was cute or otherwise.
