I finally (after 7 years!) treated myself on my first ever cookbook and after a very long research decided on the Spice & spirit cookbook. I started reading it and was just overwhelmed by the amounts of recipes!
Can you please write what is worth I should try for for YT?

I love that cookbook.
I can tell you what I make but our tastes can be so different. I read a recipe and if I have the stuff or if it sounds interesting I make it. There are very few things I don't make again from that cookbook.
I make these all the time.
the basic pancakes, stuffed shells, quiches-spinache and garden veg, broccoli
Mushroom barley soup
Dutch meat loaf, apricot chicken
Creamy broccoli kugel, pineapple upside down noodle kugel
Classic chocolate cake
I make a lot more stuff but this is to start

For RH, these recipes came out GREAT:
Zucchini stuffed chicken p240
Iranian Stew with Eggplant p203 (I made the Italian stew version)
Cranberry Pot Roast p198
No modifications, I made each recipe as is. I highly recommend all 3, they were a resounding success.

My all time favorite is the Honey-Mustard-Soy sauce Chicken. (Basic Baked Chicken, Page 234)

Broccoli kugel, sweet potato pie (I add a crumb topping), best ever banana cake, juicy pineapple chicken, chicken with mushroom sauce, meat lasagne, to name a few...
It is a good cookbook! Enjoy!

This is a great cookbook.
Just as with any other cookbook I have, I look through it and find things that appeal to me. One really great thing about this book is that it is so vast, that after many years of having it, I still find something new in it from time to time, because now I look for different things, and different things appeal to me.

I love that cookbook!! the sweet and sour meatball dinner recipe ( you can find it in the back index under meat) is delicous. Basic cookie dough, basic pancakes, and many other recipes are awesome.

Simple recipes there. Banana Cake - use 1/2 cup oil instead of 3/4 cup margarine. Apple Cake- also use oil instead of margarine. Lemon snowballs. Crispy cookies. Sweet potato pie.

what I like about this cookbook is that it has almost everything. Almost every type of cake, cookie, pie, dip, meat, chicken, kugel etc,

Everything I've tried has been a winner. The only modification I make is that for the desserts I cut down on the sugar. DH doesn't like things too sweet.
Years ago, I was in Boro Park in a bookstore looking through this cookbook. I decided to buy it because women in the bookstore kept coming over to me telling me how much they love it.

Any ideas for a nice side dish without flour or sugar (no sweetener either)? What about a chicken recipe w/o flour or sugar?

Do you mean specifically from Spice and Spirit, or in general?

Not necessarily from this cookbook. Any festive main or side recipe w/o flour or sugar would be appreciated. Tx

Any ideas for meat or chicken without flour or sugar. I am so amazed that almost all chicken recipes call for sugar!!
