Sometimes I'll be daring and put something dark in a white wash.
well, not toooo daring
like I know that if I put a mesh bag of black knee-his into the white wash, they'll be okay

don't you put bleach into the white wash - what color are the black knee highs now - grey purhaps - brown - do those colors match any of your wardrobe or is everything black like your mood today? Is that what the problem is you need new black knee-his?

u really know how 2 live dangerously - I wish I was u!!! 
(then again, it seems from another thread that knee-his r verboten so maybe ur braver than I thought  )

Seriously, if you wash dark nylon stockings in a white load your whites might be ok, I'm not sure though; but if you wash dark cottons in a white load your whites will lose their luster. I made my first mistake as a newlywed, I washed dh's cotton black socks with our pretty peach linen and the linen took on a washed-out look. That was my first and last lesson to never mix the darks and lights. Though in an emergency I will throw in my dd's pink panty with a dark load, cuz she needs it for school in an hour or so....
