I put a pot of soup up to warm and totally forgot about it when I went onto imamother. It all burnt and stuck to the pan and now my whole house smells awful! Any suggestions (particularly fast acting ones as DH will be home soon Wink )

After letting water burn out in a pot once too many times embarrassed I've stopped trying to work and cook at the same time.... so I know how you feel.

Hope you got rid of the stench!!!!!!!

speaking about smells in a house-
for those having an open house (for selling) - they recommend having an apple pie baking in the oven. Gives over a heavenly homely smell and helps the viewers think positively about your home. Smile

Instead of an apple pie, you can just simmer some water and cinnamon in a pot (watch to make sure it doesn't all evaporate). Nice smell without having to bake. Very Happy

That might actually help get your house smelling nice after burning the soup, too.

And to get the burnt pot clean, put baking soda in and fill with very hot (preferably boiling) water. Let it sit and then scrub it -- the burnt-on stuff should come off pretty easily.

the boiling cinnamon in a pot of water idea is wonderful.........also you can add anything you want.......lemon juice, cloves, orange peels, anything that smells good.

Also, you can take the pot of cinnamon water (or whatever nice-smelling stuff you simmer up) and walk with it around your house. (Make sure there are no kids underfoot!) The steam will bring a nice smell everywhere you go.

Cinnamon and or cloves in a pot of water. We did that once, and I carried the pot around the house censer style.

Yep, burnt the food. Did it too many times to count.
