A mother in DS's gan recommended KidSnips for a first haircut, because they are specifically kid-friendly, with special chairs and DVD players.
It sounds great, as DS is a wiggly, active little guy, but their website is just SOO "we're hip and edgy! We give mohawks to 8 year olds! DUUUUDE!" that I feel a little weird doing a quasi-religious thing like DS's first haircut there.
My brothers both had their first haircuts done by frum ladies who were professional hair cutters; can anyone recommend someone to me in WRP? Or, if you've been to KidSnips and it's not that bad, reassure me.
We have no relatives in Chicago, so it would just be me (plus baby in a sling) and/or DH there with him, if that matters.
Thanks!

Are you making an upsherin and talking about the post-party "clean-up" or will the professional haircut be the whole thing?

I dont have any experience a. cuz my son is 1.5 (plus we dont wait till 3) and b. my mother gave the haircuts growing up and so far I have done the same- but now he needs more then a trim and I dont want to make him look terrible so im kinda interested too... (as a fix up if I totally botch it- but since im keeping it cut but longer then a "big boy" im hoping its not to hard)
I was thinking maybe you can try a sheital macher/ woman who cuts hair and see if they can do it? I would look in the acheinu for names. (I would actually look now but dont have one handy) but off the top of my head ppl to try (again dont know if they do it or what they were charge) esther yona friedman, eliana brody, fraida laya falik... maybe they would also have ideas of who you could go to

We're having a small party in DS's school -- he's going to the grade school class to do the alef-beis and honey thing with their Rebbe, and giving out small pekelach to his class at the end of the day.
But we're new in Chicago and have no relatives to invite, so the in-school party is the extent of it. No line of relatives each cutting a lock of hair, no family get together, etc.
DH will probably cut a lock of hair in school, and we'll get it finished by a pro.
