DH has been studying for years & is making a siyum in a few weeks.
It's at 2 PM in a shul, we are expecting between 60 and 80 people.
What do people typically serve at a siyum & what is good for afternoon that wouldn't be too expensive?

Kol hakavod for you and your DH! How wonderful!
Assuming it's 2pm start, most people would have already had lunch.
The main question is if you want people to wash and bentchen with challah, or if mezonot would suffice.
Kind of things I would serve in the afternoon would be a few tray of pastries (cookies, rugelach), fresh fruit platters and crudite platters with dips. Plus basic things like potato chips, dried fruits, maybe schmaltz herring with crackers. If you want to serve something hot, you can heat/cook frozen mini knishes or brekas, or vegetarian sausages in blanket. I would be loathe to serve anything milky like mini pizza in case people have meaty lunches.
