I'm Lubavitch and recieved a hamsa as a gift (I think it's a sephardi thing against the evil eye, I think...) anyhow, I'm not sure if it's appropriate to hang it up...what do you think??

I think it's a kabbalistic and has to do with an ayin hara and though officially ones not supposed to belive in it.
I don't see a problem of accepting it and hanging it up if it is a gift!

I think it's very sephardic. if it's a beautiful one, you can hang it up. I don't believe it in so much, I mean I kind of believe in the concept of the evil eye, but that's not the issue here, but I don't believe that hanging up a hamsa will protect me...

let me ask you Freilich, Do you believe in Ayin Hara? If not then why do you say it every day in davening in Birchas Hashachar that Hashem should protect you against ayin hara?

It is one thing believing in ain hara and praying to Hashem to protect you from it, and it's another thing to have a hamsa and believe that that will protect you from ain hara. We have at our home as a decoration, nothing more.

Proud I was but we don't believe in it as far as the kamtza protecting
( think that's it's true spellling). I would never have gone out to buy it!
