Billy Bixbee was really surprised when he woke up one morning to find a dragon in his bedroom.
The dragon was a little dragon - no bigger than a kitten.
When Billy stroked its head, the dragon wagged its tail happily.
Billy went to tell his mom.
"Dragon? There's no such thing as dragons," said Billy's mom. And she was serious.
Billy went back to his room and began getting dressed. The dragon came over and sat right beside him and wagged its tail. If there is no such thing as a dragon, it would be stupid to stroke its head...
Billy washed his hands and face and went to eat breakfast. The dragon followed him. Now it was bigger, about the size of a dog.
Billy sat down at the table and the dragon sat on the table. Usually his mom didn't allow sitting on tables but what could she say? She'd already said that there was no such thing as dragons and if there is no such thing you can't tell him to get down off the table.
Billy went to brush his teeth and Mom began to clear the table. The dragon, which was now almost the same size as Mom, lay down on the carpet in the hall and fell asleep.
By the time Billy came back, the dragon was so big that it filled the whole of the hallway and Billy had to go via the sitting room to get to his mom.
"I didn't know that dragons grew so fast," said Billy.
But his mom replied sternly, "There's no such thing as dragons!"
It took Mom all morning to finish cleaning the house because the dragon interfered with her and she had to climb through the windows to get from room to room.
By the afternoon, the dragon already filled the whole house. It's head came out through the front door and its tail through the back door and there wasn't any room that didn't have a part of the dragon in it.
When the dragon woke up, it was hungry. A bakery van drove past and the dragon just couldn't resist it. He ran after the bakery van... and the house, of course, went with it, like a snail's shell.
Just then, the postman came to bring the Bixbees their mail and he saw their house trundle past him. He ran after the Bixbees' house for a few blocks, but he couldn't catch up with it.
When Mr. Bixbee came home for lunch he saw immediately that the house was gone. But he was lucky and one of the neighbors had seen in which direction the house had gone.
Mr. Bixbee got into his car and went off to look for his house and while he was on his way he checked all the houses. Eventually, he reached a house that looked familiar and he saw Billy and Mom waving to him from the window.
Mr. Bixbee climbed onto the dragon's head onto the roof and from there, he came into the house through the window.
"How did it happen?" Asked Mr. Bixbee.
"It's because of the dragon," replied Billy.
"There's no such thing as..." Mom began to say.
"Here is a dragon," Billy said resolutely, "A very big dragon," and he stroked the dragon's head.
The dragon happily wagged its tail. And then, even faster than it had grown, the dragon began to shrink.
In a few moments it was already the size of a kitten.
"I don't care about dragons as small as this one," said Mom. "Why did it have to grow so big?"
"I don't know," said Billy, "But I think that it just needed some attention..."

Too much to read, Rib. Good try, though.

Thanks Chockie for not leaving my post unanswered. I thought that that was the problem. But it's worth the read - just for fun!

The original had cute pictures to look at, not just a blur of words.

I think that we can learn from this story that things that are ignored often get out of hand. (Not just relationships.)

Thats what I found the point of this story was Wink
A little bit of attention daily can go along way, and prevent one from seeking it later in the wrong ways.

There's no "correct" answer Tefila, it's just to make us think.

Any more ideas?

how about-ignoring a problem wont make it go away. it just gets bigger and bigger until you have no choice but to face it.
