What will you be using your website for?
First you need to register your domain. I did it at www.godaddy.com for about $20.
Then, website design: I used a WAHM designer. It was about $100.
Web hosting: $5 a month
It depends on what your website will be used for. I run a business- I don't sell anything, though- so I use a site as informational about my services. If you will need a shopping cart for your site, it's more expensive for the design and hosting. can you tell us a bit more info about what you need your site for, and then I can give you a better idea of costs.

It also depends on how big the site is...A site like CEO has, I imagine only has a few pages with static content...
But once you need pages for more than informational purposes, you might consider being database driven. Not only do shopping carts cost more money because of all the programming involved, but any credit card transactions should be done on a secure server, which costs more money as well.

I use Yahoo webhosting for small business. I pay around $11/mo. US.
It includes domain name, Yahoo email with your business name (eg. you@yourbusiness.com) and sub-accounts, and you can download Yahoo Sitebuilder for free, which was easy enough for a complete novice like me to use to design my site without needing a professional web designer. I can make changes whenever I want.
I'm always amazed that older lawyers spend a fortune on advertising with Yellow Pages, etc. and don't bother with websites. I do some modest Google advertising, and I get clients without spending a ton of $.
Here's my site: www.family-lawoffice.com One of these days, I'll get around to improving the FAQ section.

JRKmommy, nice and clean website with minimum effort and expense.
Other solutions might be netfirms.com
This plan gives you many options for one low price, including 2 domain names and all the tools to set up a website.
