My DH has several pairs of pants that are ripped - not on a seam (those I've already mended). The pants are all black so I think I could get some of those iron-on patches to match pretty well.
Is this tacky? I just haven't seen anyone with patched clothes, but maybe I haven't noticed.

maybe try ironing them on the inside, if the rips aren't too noticeable.

def. do the inside, and trim the patch b/c it's not going to be that comfortable for the wearer!

For a small child, iron-on patches can even be a fashion statement, esp, if you make them symmetrical and in a contrasting color. For an adult, hmmmm...only if the pants are of the casual variety, the patches are on the knees, and you make the patches a fashion statement, too--like suede on corduroy. If you're talking about a yeshivish-looking kind of guy, I think you're out of luck unless he's going to wear these pants just for sukkoh-building and Pesach cleaning, or if the patch is going on a hidden area like the crotch.
