I'll let someone else offer craft advice.

We're focusing on Chanukah right now, but if I were to do a parsha song, I'd do this to the tune of "John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt" (otherwise known as Uncle Moishe's "Uptown, Downtown, all around the town")

Yaakov's name was changed to Yisrael
That's our name, too
Whenever we go out,
So proudly we can shout,
"We are B'nai Yisrael!"
Da da da da da da da...

(The schtick of the song is that you sing the words softer and softer as you repeat 3 or 4 times, but always sing loudly on the last 2 lines.)

Yosef's stripey coat, of course!
Give the kids a coat cut out - a T shaped thing, with a sort of V at the neckline. And give them two kinds of stripes ( colored paper cut into strips, preferably with the aid of a paper cutter), longer ones for the torso of the coat and shorter ones for the sleeves. The challenge is to glue the correct size strips to the appropriate part. And if they can challenge them to do it with a pattern.

And talk about jealousy, both being jealous and making others jealous of you.
But even as I do this every year, it makes me nervous to teach a negative trait using the shevatim, who were big tzaddikim. Any thoughts?

This week, I was only teaching pre-k and k, so this activity may not work for younger kids. You have to know something about music to do it, too. We created our own tune and words, like Serach.

In answer to above post, Serach played the harp. I saw a cute project in one class where the kids colored a harp shape and then strung yarn through cut-out holes to make the strings.

I did an activity where we practiced stepping, skipping, and jumping. Then, I showed them what steps, skips and jumps sounded like on the keyboard. (a step is a whole or half tone up, skip is major or minor third, and jump is anything larger).

I made cards that said "up" and "down" (with arrows), and then cards that said "step", "skip", and "jump" (with appropriate pictures). I invited kids to pick either "up" or "down", and then "step", "skip", or "jump". I would get a combination like "step up" or "jump down", or whatever. Then, I played that combination on the piano, using my sense of melody and harmony to put it where it would be easy for them to sing. Whoever chose step, I actually played several steps -- 3 or 4 -- to make a better tune. By the time 4 or more kids had chosen, we had enough to make a simple melody. We then decided what the words should be -- something like "Zaidie, zaidie, Yosef is still alive." I put the keyboard on a harp setting and let the kids hear what a harp sounded like. Then, we sang our song with the harp.

I know this activity isn't for everyone -- I'm sorry!

Other than the brachos Yaakov gave Menashe & Efraim and that he crossed his hands, what else are you teaching 3 yr olds this week?
Any songs on this topic?
What about arts&crafts? Last year I used fasteners to cross the hands. But I'm out of fasteners now and probably won't be going out this week. Any other ideas?

For parasha, you can just teach them a nice Hamalach Hagoel. Or the song Yesimcha Elokim K'efrayim U'ch'menashe...Yivarechicha Hashem....I forget where it's from but it's a beautiful song.

For brachos, I like KidZemer's rendition of Elmo's Song -- The Brachos song:
Na na na na, na na na na, the brachos song...
What is the bracha for vegetables? Ha'adama! (etc.)

I just did hamalach hagoel, but will think of something simple in English for you later today, if you like. I'd like to come up with something about Ephraim and Menashe.
