I told my MIL I would bring a salad to Sunday's Chanukah party, but I can't think of anything to make, besides cole slaw, which my SIL is probably bringing and corn salad, which I have made the past few years and no one eats anymore. The other things being served, based on previous experience, will be rye bread, latkes and hot dogs, crudites and chocolate mousse for dessert.
I'm looking for something classic, nothing exotic or strange.

broccoli salad is always nice. You can also make a taco salad, that goes very well with hot dogs.

No kosher tacos here that I know of. Broccoli salad might not be bad. Israeli salad...might not be bad either.

Of course you don't have to do a taco salad, which I don't think is a good idea anyway because it might sit too long and it will get soggy, BUT I made a "taco" salad this past week and since I didn't have any tacos in the house and I don't even know if I can get, I just used crackers.

Portobello mushroom salad sounds good. How do you make it? Is there a recipe without lettuce, which I don't feel like checking?
baba, do you have an interesting pasta salad recipe?

That calls for romaine lettuce, doesn't it? I don't think it's available here. Iceberg lettuce probably won't cut it, will it?
