Someone gave us a box of frozen Tilapia.. I tried defrosting it, and making a couple and EWWWW fish smell and taste.

Honestly I do not like it at all! I do not mind Tilapia fresh, but ewwwwww.

Any suggestions??? Or is there anyone in LA that does not mind fishy tasting/smelling frozen fish??

I've heard that you need to prepare tilapia with a strong sauce to overcome the fishiness.

I don't find tilapia to have a fishy smell. Maybe it was defrosted and re-frozen?

Try soaking the fish in vinegar and water or lemon juice and water for 20-30 minutes before you prepare it in any recipe.

Fresh fish doesn't smell. Even tilapia. It probably isn't that fresh Sad

Fish - fresh or frozen - should not have an extremely "fishy" smell. It gets that way when it has gone bad. Honestly, I'd toss it and throw together salmon patties (my emergency fish course) or something.

Tilapia is actually one of the most mild tasting fish out there, the fact that it had a bad fishy smell means it was most definitley rotten. Truthfully no fish should have that fishy smell, it means that its going bad but tilapia especially is known for its mildness.

I use frozen tilapia often and it never has a fishy smell or taste. Its one of the less "fishy" fish. Make sure it is not spoiled.
