another thing I have noticed are little spots on my spoons.

the silver dip works like a charm but is not recommended for frequent use. Overuse will result in a chalky-white patina that is difficult if not impossible to remove. Also the chemical in silver dip causes cancer and you must wash off the silver very, very well so as not to poison anyone. (True for all silver polish, but more important for the silver dip.)

I just heard about the method of boiling a huge pot of water, and lining the bottom of the bot with silver foil. You should dunk the silver item into the pot and let it stand for a few minutes. The tarnish transfers over to the silver paper. The silver paper becomes black. Anyone try this before? Do you have to put in baking soda?

I'd like to try the dipping technique-- what is the product called? I know my MIL uses a homemade blend with ammonia, I think. It seems too good to be true-- cleaning silver w/o rubbing??

A lot of my silver has little crevices that just never get un-tarnished.

And chen, what would you consider frequent use of the silver dunk that could lead to damage?
