soak them in the sink with a bit of hot water and a bit of bleach. I do the same for tzizit

I would pretreat, let a load of them sit overnight in the washer, in the smallest amount of hot water the machine would fill until, and the max soap and bleach (you can use the kind for colors if you're afraid).

The next day, let the machine fill to the top with hot water and finish washing. Dont' put in the dryer!

Great tip:

I brought a white skirt to the dry cleaners that was covered in punch, thanks to my baby. They said they didnt think they could get it out (talk about honesty) but that I should try pine sol.
I tried it last night and it worked! My skirt is completely white again. All stains came out and no yellow residue that bleach can cause!

I hate using bleach. Pine sol?? Will have to try that.
I wanted a pre-treating method. I use iron-out but I know people pre-treat with a mixture of detergents (iron-out, nature bright etc.)and was wondering what they use and if it helps before I go out buying these expensive detergents.
Yeah and since I'm trying to save money Smile

the cleaners is not an option. I don't mind washing the shirts. Ironing is a different story though Smile

but I make it fast and feel accomplished when it's all done Very Happy

wash in hot water with your choice of oxyclean or use stain spray then you can send it to the cleaners, the cleaners really do not get dirt out.

My oldest son is in Yeshiva, and between his white shirt EVERY day, all day, and the younger 4 Shabbos shirts, I was a LOT of white shirts, lol!

I think I have finally perfected my method...
First I make a soloution of very hot water with a scoop of Oxy-Clean powder mixed in. I then pour some of this mixture onto any organic stain (grape juice, wine, mustard, grass, ring-around-the-collar etc). I fill the washing machine with hot water and a few more scoops of oxyclean. Dump all the shirts in. Then I pour in some bleach (it says not to mix oxy-clean and bleach, but after a tip I got on imother, I tried it, and it works great!). Then I leave it to soak about 20 min, then run the machine through one cycle (no soap). Wash and spin is enough - you don't have to rinse. Then , I add in detergent and wash as usual - the shirts come out beautifully white :-)

If I had to send all my white shirts to the dry-cleaner every week, I would be broke!!

I use Nature Bright (from Shaklee) I mix it with liquid detergant (tide usually) and apply it to the collar & cuffs. I rub it in (with a toothbrush for the really bad ones) and let it stand for a couple of hours. I then wash it with hot water. Comes out as good as new!

My friend uses a bar of Octagon soap - didn't work for me.
I also heard that using shampoo or regular bar soap can be used - they're made to remove human oils - but that didn't work for me either...

I use stain stick on the collar and on the sleeves then let it soak overnight in the machine with tide and bleach and it comes out sparkling white.

I spray the collar and cuffs with 'shout'. then I wash it on regular hot cycle with 'tide with bleach'. the shirts are sparkling white (then I send them to the cleaners... but as someone said before the cleaners don't really get the dirt out)

if you soak them, you can use cooler water probably, but if they are really dirty, they won't get as clean unless you use warm or hot water.

WOW Thanks for the Variety of tips!!!

A new bottle of oxyclean mysteriously presented itself in my house last night on a shelf somewhere when I was looking for the tide with bleach and that's what I used. We'll see how it comes out.

My mother and aunt use Cascade dishwasher crystals to get their white shirts super white.

BTW, if the directions on a cleaning solution warns not to mix with another cleaning solution, DON'T!!!!!!! It could be they warn you not to because agents in each will react negatively with one another and cause Bad Things To Happen.

I believe if one mixes amonia and bleach it can cause toxic fumes that will make you pass out....

bleach eats up the clothing. it may make the clothing look white but they won't last very long. please be aware that bleach is a very harmful toxin. it can cause harm by breathing it in or by touching it. most of all by putting this chemical on our clothing it is then being put onto our skin and absorbed into our bloodstream within 90 seconds. this is very scary, and I would like to make people aware of laundry detergents as well as all household cleaners. if possible please try to choose natural non toxic cleaners. it's for your own benefit and for the good of your family.
