Does anyone here do P3? What does it involve? How much does it earn /hr? What do you do with the child?

its basically tutoring for kids who are approved. It pays about forty an hour, but you can combine up to five kids at a time and make up to one hundred an hr. I dont know anyone who actually does that, though. I think bec its hard to arrange.

Do you need special certification or recognition by the DOE to do it? Or is just being a certified sp-ed teacher enough?

yeah you just have to be a certified special ed teacher.
it pays about forty an hour. (as someone said, you can combine more kids and make more per hour but it's not practical to arrange. usually each kid needs different stuff and or different timing.)

any certified teacher can do it, but I think you do need approval. Try calling project learn for more info.

So glad there's a post about this! I may have gotten myself into a bit of a predicament. I am certified Sp Ed Br-2. I accepted a case the mother told me the child was in 2nd grade and I agreed not thinking carefully, but it was in the summer and when the mother called to confirm, the child is now in 3rd grade. Do I have to cancel? I feel bad now that the school year has started.

I am currently a P3 provider. I have my internship certification. I am almost done with my masters degree in special ed and have taken all 4 certification tests. However, to be a P3 provider I think all you really need is a B.A. and one certification test I think the LAST. Children who have had SEEIT in headstart usually get P3 when they reach age 5. Most children get approved for One period a day (5 per week). A period is not an hour it's about 45 minutes. The rate is $41.98 per period. Maximum ration is 8:1. P3 providers only deal with the cognitive aspect of learning. Good Luck! I have been teaching for many years and am looking forward to being a P3 provider and a SEEIT.

My DS turned 5. He had seit until now. They advised me to request P3. However, at the meeting of turning 5 I was told its basically only in public schools. I told her it doesn't make sense. In the end she says I can try sending a letter and they will see. Does anyone know if its only available in public schools???

Runninglate, thanks for your reply. By after school you mean in the school building after classes finish or at home? Btw I forgot to mention that I live in Brooklyn, if that matters.

call the board of ed and ask. they're not always so strict about it, but find out right away so you can let the mother know if she has to look for someone else.

I want to know if I can do P3 for them. I would like the exact certification/qualifications that I need before providing this service.

Nechamie wrote: | A period is not an hour it's about 45 minutes. | btw this is a common misconception. the 45 min thing only applies if you do it in school, because they have 45 min periods. but if you do it at home you can do five full hours. this is what I was told by patty mullady, district coordinator.

Thanks! I live in Boro Park. Where does she work? The board of ed? | yeah, she's in charge of p3 in certain districts. pretty sure it includes boro park, not positive though. can't hurt to try, if she's not the right person she'll direct you to the right person. she's very helpful.
