Scarred Sight: A Camera's Plight
I inevitably lose
Every blinking contest I play,
Controlled by the mind,
Too weak to recall.
I am forced
To draw the curtains
Of innocent people’s lives
Invading their privacy.
I focus on the baby’s pout
Seconds before the wail
Betrays the mother’s neglect.
I zoom in on the senior
A stiff tower of curls
Poised neatly above her brow,
The unfortunate zit
Peeking through her makeup.
My flash blinds
The elderly grandmother
Whose eyes have been fading
Along with her memory.
The couple at the altar
Announcing their vows
I catch the eye of the bride
As it scans the crowd
Her words landing
On the shoulders
Of her true love.
Against my will
I crop out
Beautiful, ignored scenery
Capturing instead,
A family with false smiles.
My sight has been scarred
With images not meant to be shared.
I Shudder
Because I know these images
Have been irreversibly recorded
In my memory.
