Dr Barbara Luke diet- DID YOU REALLY EAT THAT MUCH???

I am 3.5 months preg with twins and I am trying to follow Barbara Luke's diet from the 'when you're expecting twins triplets or quads' book. However, I am finding it physically impossible to eat that much food every day, not to mention how much more complicated it is when you keep kosher and all the dairies and daytime proteins are limited if you don't want to be fleishig. Combine that with the fact that I can't stand eggs or chicken and I am having a very hard time finding a variety of foods to eat, and I'm getting very sick of the foods that I am willing to eat. I'm also so tired when I wake up in the morning with my 1 yr old that I can't get down more than a bowl of cereal till around 12 or so, after I take a nap, but then I'm four hours behind on eating time. I force myself to eat eggs and cheese, but it's more for lunch than breakfast, maybe a snack a bit later, then tuna for lunch at three, and I make sure to snack in between that and dinner because we don't it till at least 8, if not 830. After dinner I am SO STUFFED and miserable and heartburny from all the food, and I know that it's still probably not even enough calories! Help!! Anybody?

I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. You're by no means meant to stuff yourself beyond capacity. Juat take the dietary guidlines as just that: guidlines. Overall, the most important thing it to eat healthy, well-rounded meals, get plenty of protein, and make good choices for snacks, like fruit and almonds. And congratulate yourself on buying her book. It was the best pregnancy book I had since the whole thing was about multiples, rather than one little chapter sqeezed in like in other books. That said, I didn not pay attention to every little bit. I didn't try to fully follow the diet (besides keeping kosher, of course, I'm also a vegetarian!) and din't really rest as much as she suggests. But b"h I had a full term pregnancy (37 weeks) and have two healthy girls to show for it (well, one was in the NICU for three weeks to gain weight, but that was due to unrelated issues, and she did great and is perfectly healthy).

Best of luck! Remember, worrying too much about your diet, or anything, will do more harm than good.

I didn't read the book but read a blog about someone who was following that diet- she did a lot of high protein milk shakes. add protein powder to a good thick creamy milkshake.... use whole milk, ice cream etc

just want to reiterate, don't make yourself crazy to follow her specific diet, but use her ideas of increasing proteins etc.

oy oy oy! these diets!


just do what feels right TO YOU!

DON'T OBSESS! DON'T WORRY! JUST EAT AS YOUR BODY DESIRES...LISTED TO YOUR BODY!

so many of us have lost an ability to do that. make sure to stay relaxed and the babies will get what they need. the body absorbs what it needs to and the happier the mom is the better the absorption is. make sense?

I never did any diets when I was pregnant with twins.
I just ate when I was hungry and didn't eat when I wasn't.
As I do when I am pregnant, nursing, or not.

My twins were born at 36 weeks and were completely healthy b'h.

Bnm, you wouldn't by any chance remember the blog, would you?

Kumphort, I am trying to but I don't really like the protein foods.

Sarachana- my first baby was 5.2 and while it turned it out that I had a secondary placental lobe, part of that also had to do with my eating habits, since we were living in a house without a kitchen for the last 6 weeks of my pregnancy and the only normal meal I ate every day was dinner. My natural eating habits are not much better than that and if I followed my instincts I would probably have tiny babies and/or preterm labor due to eating less than 2000 calories a day. I'm just not a big eater. So yes, I think trying to follow this diet the best I can is the best thing for me.

I didn't follow her diet, although I tried to increase my protein intake. I was nauseous throughout the pregnancy, so my goal was generally just to get some food into my system! My twins were born at 35 weeks, completely healthy, and needed no NICU time.

I read a bit of her book, the amount she says to eat seem quite crazy IMO.

You can also try protein shakes, or protein powder, if you can't handle regular protein sources.

Also nuts are a good source of protein.
