Our shul has a mailing list with members names and phone numbers .
if you had the chance to give these names to another org (not a cause)
not a tzedaka would you give it out ? Minus the phone numbers
which is so annoying.
it would be for the BENEFIT of our shuls members .
The worse thing that could happen is that they will toss their mail?

I don't understand why would you do it? What is this organization that you are giving other peoples names out to? And don't these people have to say it is okay for you to give out their name and address to organizations?

Asking permission is a nice, courteous thing to do. It may not seem necessary, but it certainly can't hurt. Plus, if anyone in the shul complains about the mailing, you can always tell them that you got the OK to use the mailing list!

Members of my shul are always angry when people or organisations use the shul directory as a mailing list.
I would be careful of giving it out if I were you.

Watch out it could be illegal! Be careful! Privacy rights are a real thing!
Asking permission is very smart! I work for a non-profit, we had a lawyer come to speak to us about privacy rights. I would not take chances or set the shul up for a law-suit you can't be too careful these days. You never know who will sue. If ppl want their info given out they can sign for it.
