I'm looking for a PS job in Middlesex or Union counties (NJ) or Staten Island. I'm certified in elementary, special ed, reading specialist with 8 years of experience. Have been commuting to BKLYN and would like to reduce travel time.
I'm trying to network!
Anyone teach in those districts? Know someone else who does? Have ideas for me? Know the superintendents and can get me in
Thanks!

Off topic, but how did you get certified for both NY and NJ? I hear the transfer is a headache, any advice? I haven;t really looked into it yet.

I'm in the same boat (I'm in a different academic area) and I have been applying to NJ schools with no luck. I heard its all who you know. I'd love to be proven wrong but it seems you need to have an "in", which I dont.

Are you asking about those towns specifically because Monmouth and Ocean counties are already filled with frum teachers from lakewood? You probably would have more luck going south in NJ.

lol! no, actually I live in central NJ.
I had NY cert for years before applying for NJ. If you have 3+ years work experience the process is much easier. You don't need to take the Praxis or have student teaching/ mentored teaching.

Yep, heard that too, from someone who sent her resume to 125 schools, didn't hear a thing.
Finally someone got her an interview with a superintendent and the very next day she began a long term subbing job and then got a real job in that school after that. So yeah, that's why I came here, hoping someone would say "yeah, my uncle's a superintendent in a cushy NJ suburb and owes me a favor and I like the way you sound" lol!
lots of hatzlacha, lemme know what ends up happening.
I actually have an interview on thurs for a job I don't want (H.S., part-time, seedy neighborhood) but I guess it's a good opportunity to practice saying "Oh! please excuse me, I'm an orthodox jew so I don't shake hands with men"!
