French Toast for uniform bottoms (skirt and/or pants)?

Hi all,
Not sure if this is the right forum for this but I'll ask anyway and if a mod wants to move it, gezunteheit. Very Happy

My childrens' school has a 'dress code' but not a specific uniform. Girls have to wear tznius skirts (even could be denim but must be 'nice' denim, not patchy/faded etc.) and boys have to wear long pants -- khaki, navy, grey, like that. Girls' tops are not a problem for me to get and neither are plain polos for my son. Bottoms are trickier.

I was looking at the French Toast (www.frenchtoast.com) uniform bottoms and there are a few longer girls' skirts and of course all the boys' pants. They are super inexpensive. But I have no experience with this company or the quality/feel of the clothing and would prefer to get some feedback as I would be on the hook for shipping even if I decide to return it.

So, if you have purchased and/or seen this company's clothing, specifically the skirts and/or (little boys') pants, can you comment on the quality, feel, durability, etc.?

I buy French Toast. Our local store sells it for cheaper than the website! The pants and shirts I've gotten have lasted very well- My oldest has worn them and they are still in good condition for my second child to wear. I get their black pants for Shabbos, and they have also lasted beautifully.
I would encourage you to buy the pants that have the elastic adjustable belts inside for a custom fit.

I haven't bought their skirts.

I have bought the long skirts, long jumpers and shirts for my girls. I have found them to be very durable. Things have lasted well enough to be handed down in some cases (the skirts). The shirts would be okay to hand down in terms of being in good shape, but they are just discolored on the sleeves because they are white...nothing to do with the quality of the product.

I put the french toast adjustable pants on my son and they are great. Definitely last for more than one kid.

I also happen to sell them (for cheaper than the FT site)

True to size more than anything else, as far as pants go. For shirts they don't have a size between 4T and 4, and so the 4 might run a bit big on a kid who would fit into size 5T, but not the biggest deal since the shirt gets tucked in. Otherwise, true to size as well.

Bought two of their long skirts a few years ago. Middle seam came out in the first wearings. Talk about not tznius at school!!! They didn't want to make good on them. They still send me catalogs as if I'd ever order from them. With shipping, they were more $ than I'd pay locally but of course long is hard to find at Target, etc. Save yourself the headache of dealing with that company:)

The adjustable boys pants are awesome!!! my kids are really rough on pants, these are the only ones that last through a year and get passed on. They don't hold up to scissors though! Smile

my kids love scissors... Sad

The shirts are great, and never need to be ironed, gorgeous out of the dryer, the blue and yellow I can usually pass on, white usually gets dumped at the end of the year, because its white. the polos are also great.

I have a friend with a girl who likes the skirts (pants, as her kids wear those too)

My sister's childrens' school specified that uniforms purchased from French Toast were forbidden in the school. She and I both found this to be odd, as there are so many economical and tsanua clothes there that otherwise conform to the school code.

Is this a common "thing" in frum schools? What's the problem with this brand??

That is extremely strange. Maybe they want to guarantee that the 'frum' brand which is more expensive gets purchased?

You can also find nice uniform things at Lands End as well as, this year, Children's Place. Both have longer skirts that with a little girl can be plenty long enough (especially if you cinch the waist in with the adjustable waistband). Lands End has a plaid jumper that is the *exact* plaid of my daughters' former school (before we moved) and would have been perfect for my littler girl without spending the bundle from the uniform company.

TCP this year has some longer-ish skirts (below knee, esp. if you buy in a bigger size). At under $10 a piece with a coupon, they're good for as long as they last.

I haven't received my order from French Toast yet. I did order a bunch of biz-style skirts from a new out of town frum purveyor called Kiddie So Pretty. She gave me some great deals and was super helpful. Since we don't have a uniform, only a dress code, that should be ok. We will see...
