School not paying

I had my kids' tuition deducted from my salary to be sent directly to their school - this ate up most of my salary.
However, the school I work in is now 5 months late in sending tuition. They are on time paying salaries, but not tuition. I see it that this IS my salary - its just going elsewhere.

So now my kids will not be getting their report cards because so much money is owed to them (which has already been deducted from my salary). They already have dealt with the embarrassment of not being allowed into class because my school was soo far behind in paying. Now they are upset because they worked so hard this year, and they are the only ones not to know how they did. Anyone have experience with this, where they actually got money out of the school that they were owed? I am planning on contacting a lawyer.
thanks!

We do automatic payment with our bank towards other bills but this is different. So you work for school A and have them pay school B? Why exactly? So that you never see the money, therefore, it's easier to set aside? You could have done the same thing with a bank which is a more secure situation. If this is what you're doing it seems a bit odd to me since a school is not trustworthy to pay such an important bill as tuition. It's not their responsibility either. They owe that money to you not your kids' school.

As far as I know, and I bet most on here, jewish schools don't have a great track record with paying on time. Get a lawyer quick and stop having them pay the school. It clearly hasn't been working and all paychecks need to go to you.

to the best of my knowledge, it is done this way because of taxes. it's a hard situation - I hope you get it resolved.

As in school A is "donating" to school B so it's tax exempt? Is that even kosher?

If I remember correctly, it's okay for the schools to do that if they're the same kind of school. Tuition at the school you teach at could be a tax deductible break under certain circumstances, so tution at another school can also. it's supposed to be a perk, though, I thought.

in any case, I would communicate with the other school. The point of withholding report cards is to incentivize the parents to pay. If they know you already "paid" and it's out of your hands, htey should release the report cards to you and retaliate against your school somehow -- charging extra fees they can't pass on to you, withholding any tuition they owe to your school, etc.

Are you doing this because you are using pre-tax dollars ?

Its a totally legal tax break for those working in education. However, for you it seems not to be working. So tell your school you would like the cash please and then give it to school B. You won't save on the tax but you will on the agmas nefesh
