I recently went to a wedding -
the couple printed out a program giving details
as to who walked down the aisle -
who wrote the kettuabah -
it explains the badekkin the breaking of the glass ETC.
it also mentioned the dear departed ones who could not be their at the simcha !

I have seen that too. A little TMI if you aren't really involved with the couple!

If you're not involved, why are you at the wedding?

When my mom was in England for a wedding. Evry guest got a printed list of all the adreses for the shul, where the wedding a nd sheva brochus will be, local mikvas, the addresses of the mechitunim, etc.....
I want to prepare one for our out of town guests for an upcoming simcha. I think it is a nice gesture.

I did that at my wedding fifteen years ago. It is not a new concept. I have seen it more at weddings where there are alot of not jewish or not frum guests. It gives them a litlle understanding of what is involved in a Jewish wedding.

Were you here in Detroit? I was at a chassunah here on Monday night and the kallahs mother and brother wrote and copyrighted a brochure explaining the wedding and it even had a chapter about married life, second marriages and believe it or not: birth control in halacha. Anyone who wants to make this brocure with their own chosson and kallahs name on it for future chassunahs can contact these people and have their own printed. The parents of the kallah are Chabad shluchim and had many guests who would not understand what was happening.

I mean - friendly with the grandparents, for example, or a business contact.

Almost every wedding that I've been to has had a program.

Programs are a lovely idea. Besides minimizing the buzz-buzz during the processional and chuppoh as mrs. A asks Mrs. Q "who's that?" and Mrs. Q answers "that's the chosson's roommate from Mir and his wife who was the kalloh's roommate from BJJ", it's a nice touch for those guests who may not be all that familiar with what goes on in a frum wedding or the particular customs of this family or community.

We saw a beautiful program explaining all the customs-- this was for a mixed sephardi ashkenaz wedding, which helped out all those who weren't familiar with the other side's customs.
It would have also been great for my wedding since our family is not frum, and many were not familiar with things like a public bedeken. We didn't end up making printed programs, but the mesader kiddushin gave a lovely brief talk before the chosson's tisch and bedekin explaining the origin of the customs that our non-frum guests may not have known.
