This morning my 6 yr. dear son refused to go to school.
My DH was getting ready to go, my older dear son (8) already had his shoes and his on. and My DH told them to go to the car (just like every morning). Well, my 6 yr. started saying that he "has nothing to do at school!!!" and refused to put his shoes on and go to the car.
Well, DH waited for about 10 minutes, and finally I told my DS that he better put his and go, or he will lose his privilages. So, he finally got up and went to the car.
Well - about 20 minutes later I got a call from a very frustrated DH.
He was really late for work, 'cuz DS was putting up a fight and not going into his school.
(and that's after DH took him to the store and bought him nosh and candy).
So I told my DH to just bring him home, and I will deal with him, so that DH can go to work.
Well, DS just walked in. and I'm not quite sure what to do.
I already thought of asking him if something happened at school. (and I will do that). It just doesn't make any sense! He came home in a Great mood yesterday. He Loves his Rebbe. He has a bunch of friends etc...
All he says is: There's nothing to do at school.
(btw, I did offer that he can take a basket ball, or game to school, but he refused).
What should I do?????

at 6 years old, maybe something is going on. Ask him to tell you, and tell you that if he doesn't you'll be taking him and walking him in.
Maybe let dh go off to work, and you take him in.
Maybe its something new, maybe a new schedule? Is he in Kindergarten after being in Preschool?
Don't give him a treat before he goes. He has to EARN it. Let him be rewarded with a slurpee or something on his way home from school IF he has a great day.
And if he doesn't want to tell y ou why, tell him that he can come and tell you any time. And listen.

There may have been the slightest thing to upset him: a new seat, he doesn't understand something, another kid said something that bothered him. Maybe he isn't feeling well and doesn't want to tell you.
Even though it's hard, don't get too upset or frustrated with him. That can be really difficult when you have a whole day planned and suddenly one of your children is home from school! Sit him down and talk to him about why he doesn't want to go. Put a call in to his teacher to find out if anything happened the day before. Take care of the prolem before this becomes a habit.
If everything seems OK, you can always bring him to school later today.
Or just enjoy the day wiith him. Everyone needs a "day off"...even a 6 year old. Some of my best times with my children have been completely "unplanned". Just make sure it doesn't happen often!
