Did you ever notice that some things are REALLY noisy... like a garbage truck, mowing, the door bell, even a car driving down the street. these things drive me crazy when I'm trying to put my toddler to sleep.
oh, I forgot, also the toilet flushing. it makes tons of noise too!

annoying--but don't worry about the baby. S/he will learn to sleep through all the noise.
Funny story related to above:
My friend's husband is from a small town and came to the big city to attend college. His roommate had already been living in the big city for some time. The first night, Sam asks his roomie "What's that screaming?" Roomie says "What screaming?" Sam--"the screaming from outside". Roomie: "I don't hear anything." Sam: "There's a lady screaming something--sounds like someone being attacked. maybe we should call 911." Roomie: "Oh, that--that's just the lady upstairs. She's always yelling like that. Nobody notices it any more. I thought you meant screaming screaming. "

the problem is that she isn't such a baby anymore and that she does wake up from these noises.

throughout the years I've gotten worse with noises..
today every tiny noise frustrates me.. even if it's normal..
when I put the kids to sleep.. and a car beeps outside... I get upset.. but the car isn't doing a/thing wrong.. beeping at 7 pm is normal.. it's not 12 am... but it drives me nuts.. I finally get the kid to sleep and beeeeeep beeeep...

The absolute most obnoxious IMO is those alternating car alarms that run through a repertoire of about 5 different sounds, from doo-WEE,doo-WEE,doo-WEE through WOW_WOW_WOW_WOW, chip-chip-chip-chip,EEE-yore, EEE-yore, EEE-yore, so that your brain can NEVER tune it out. At least with the old style shrill single-tone, though it could go on forever, eventually your mind could tune it out. Still annoying, but you could function. The alternating tones make that impossible.

Funny, as a kid, we used to live on a busy street in brooklyn right next to the hatzalah garage. I was used to falling asleep to the backing of the ambulance into the garage or to the click-clack of womens' heels ( I guess heels were more in style then) And chen, those alternating alarms, I can't get it out of my head now...
Did u ever notice how much noice the computer, fax, printer & copier in the office make? One black-out reveals this strange silence...
