The magic word

My son learned a new word.
Its a magic word.
Its not abracadabra or hocus pocus
but it does magic.

My son learned a magic word.
Its not please or thank you.
Its not excuse me or your welcome
but it gets results.

When my son says his magic word,
I turn away from the dishes and look at him.
I move aside my siddur to make room on my lap.
I put down the book I'm reading and read his book instead.

My son can do magic.
He can make me turn and look at him
no matter what I'm doing.
He delays my leaving to work.

My son learned a new word,
a magic word.
My 2 and a half year old says "Mama".
Let the magic begin.

Oh my Gosh! I almost wrote the exact same type of poem today! My almost 3 year old just started to say "mama" too! When you wait that long for it, the simple word is the most magical sound in the world.

Can we see what you wrote? I didn't do justice to the beauty of the word.

My poem never made it past the first 2 lines, because ds was pulling me away from the computer. But it was something about the sweetest sound I've ever heard.

Unfortunately, he only says it when I make him. I won't give him anything to eat or drink until he says mama, but he won't say it on his own. It takes a few minutes of coaxing to get it out of him each time.

Ds is now poking me with a fork and pushing the computer screen off of the desk, so I can't try to write the poem now, but maybe when he naps.

I think you did - really captures it well.

Okay, ds is sleeping, here goes:

The Sweetest Sound

I was cleaning up my dirty house just the other day
While my children sat around me with a little game to play.
My mind was wandering here and there
As I worked to make all the dirt all disappear.

Suddenly I heard it- that most amazing word;
It surely was the sweetest sound my ears had ever heard.
My darling little son who is almost three year old
Was uttering that joyful sound in a voice so bold.

As I sat and listened, I thought my heart would melt.
I can’t remember another time when so much joy I’ve felt.
My lovely little boy with the curly golden hair
Was saying “mama” loudly, for all the world to hear.

I dropped my broom, leapt in the air and hugged my son real tight.
My son’s face shown and so did mine; our smiles were so bright.
He still continued talking, saying “mama” loud and clear.
And each time I heard that sweetest word, I hugged my boy so dear.
