My daughter made this when she was 3, she's now 10 and I still have it on my fridge.

It's a circle paper plate with a half a circle paper plate stapled to it to make a pocket. It was painted pink, and on it, it says "Mom's coupons" and it had some colorful tissue paper glued to it - it has a magnet on the back.

It is on our fridge and it hold coupons and more.

A set of handprints with the following poem:

Sometimes you get discouraged
Because I am so small
And always leave my fingerprints
On furniture and walls.

But every day I'm growing -
I'll be grown some day
And all those tiny handprints
Will surely fade away.

So here's a little handprint
Just so you can recall
Exactly how my fingers looked
When I was very small.

1. An open CD case framed with puzzle pieces. Picture of kid on one side and colored construction paper on the other side with the words, "Happy Mother's Day, I love you to pieces!" I'm not sure if I'm describing it well, but the open case stands up on my dresser like a double picture frame.
2. Laminated and framed (with cardboard) picture of kid glued to decorated paper that says "Behind every great kid is a great mom."

A potted spider plant! It's a good springtime school activity. The students decorated tiny pots and planted cuttings (a valuable life skill). Many years later, the plant is thriving in a much larger pot, and I am planting its cuttings in little pots - my "grandplants," lol.

Key chains are cute. You can use the plastic ones that fit photos. Or buy key-rings and make your own. I've seen both in Michael's. I once got one with a photo on one side and on the other side dd wrote a poem and the teacher shrunk-copied it to fit. If they're too young to write, they can draw a picture.

My daughter made this when she was in nursery school and I used the idea with my students as well. A picture was taken of her sitting on a chair holding a large heart that was cut out of paper (it covered her from her waist to near her chin) that either said Happy Mother's Day or I love you, and she had a beautiful smile on her face.
The children made the frame out of popsicle sticks and the picture was placed on it with a magnet so that it could be hung on the frig. (some times the children painted the frame)Simple, cute kid's picture, the child made the frame, and easy to use and display.

Anything with a cute, clear photo of the kid.

An oldie but goodie: A recipe book. You interview each kid and they tell you one of their Mom's recipes. You write it down word for word exactly like they say. You can have the kids illustrate if you want. It is sure to bring many laughs.
