any hints Motek?
And where do you find five words that begin with alef in a row? (not that hard).
Here's another famous riddle : Quote: | Rashi traveled through Spain, wanting to meet the Gedolei Torah there. Early one morning upon reaching Toledo, he headed to the shul to find the Rav, but found it closed, so he headed to the Rav's house. The Rav was also not at his home, so Rashi left.
After Rashi left, the servant went to fetch a silk garment which always hung in the corrider, but now he did not find it. Where is the garment? called the servant in confusion, and all the members of the Rav's household began a futile search.
Suddenly one of the handmaidens recalled the poor stranger that was in the house a while ago, who wanted to talk to the Rav. It appeared that he stole it. The chase began, but no one knew to where the poor stranger had disappeared. finally they located him eating his meal at one of the local inns.
Where is the garment that you stole? Return it immediately!
Rashi was perplexed. But the servants got angry and shlepped him back to the Rav's home. Searching through his bags they found nothing though. "You must have sold it! Pay up!"
Rashi's denials and complaints went unheeded, and he had to pay for the garment with his last pennies. after he left, he took chalk in hand, and wrote on the outside of the door: שלמה שלמה שלמה שלמה שלמה
When the Rav returned to his home, to his surprise he saw the strange writing on the door, and tried to decipher it, but could not. He then called his servants and asked them who left this writing on the door? However, they could not answer him, and only much later one of the servants thought that perhaps it was the poor man that was there in the morning, and he told the Rav the story.
The Rav then bade his servants to find the poor man and bring him back to explain his inscription. Spreading out through the city, they quickly found Rashi and brought him back. "Tell me" said the Rav, "what are these words that you wrote on the door?" |
Before I write what Rashi answered, can anyone figure it out?
OKay, Motek, your riddle just reminded me of that one.

as for the 12 chofs (Yeshaya 24:2):
והיה כעם ככהן כעבד כאדניו כשפחה כגברתה כקונה כמוכר כמלוה כלוה כנשה כאשר נשא בו
I find it hard to believe!
now, in addition to finding two places with 6 alefs, how about also finding twelve words in a row that end with the letter tav

Oy, Motek, I thought you were going to give us more time. I only got through yirmiyahu, but didn't have a chance to look through the rest...
how did you find this passuk? and what is the significance of the twelve chof's? Do the meforshim say anything (you thought you were going to get off easy when we have to slog through the whole er half of the Tanach? 8) )

You're not serious are you?
I figured I may as well post it because how can people find it? No, I didn't expect anyone to read through all of Tanach until they found it!
