What do you look for when buying a new cookbook.

Me first: Well written . Source for new category of food (Sephardic cooking ) . Deals with a personal interest . For example, new ways with vegetables. Chatty with interesting tips
Also like to "read" good pictures! Clear detailed descriptions.

I don't buy too many cookbooks. A lot are garage sale or book sale finds that are just fun to have, like the popcorn cookbook, hot dog cookbook, a sixties sisterhood cookbook, etc.

Every now and then I get cookbooks from the library and some I'd be tempted to get if they were cheap on Amazon. I found myself photocopying a LOT of recipes from a cookbook that IIRC is called Casserole Crazy (not that I made too many of them yet). The America's Test Kitchen cookbooks are fun and great too.

I haven't bough a kosher cookbook in a long time. My major criteria would be readability and accessibility. I've found that my favorite recipes tend to come from "institution" cookbooks - schools, community efforts, etc. Well-tested recipes made by real people.

I love cookbooks...
There are some cookbooks that are easily workable with, tried, decent ingredients - those are the ones I go for.
I also like food decorations, any cookbook that has any decorative ideas.

I like books with nice pictures because they motivate me to cook when I'd otherwise not fee like it. I also like simpler recipes without a lot of hard to get ingredients.

I've been looking for that lately because I can't get all ingredients now because of where I live. I bought my dd, kids in the kitchen and the teen one, but a lot of the ingredients we can't get. It's a little disappointing, but we make do.

I also like prefer a cookbook with a spiral.

I like when they have pictures that show me how to present the food, but even more important is when the directions are clear and most of the recipes are made out of common ingredient. (Meaning not using weird or expensive ingredients.)
