IASI, Romania (AP) - A Romanian woman who gave birth to a son in December has delivered his twin brother two months later, doctors said.

Maricica Tescu delivered a five-pound, 11-ounce baby Monday, 59 days after his brother was born weighing three pounds, eight ounces. Dr. Mircea Onofriescu, who manages the Cuza Voda Maternity Hospital in the northeast city of Iasi, said the babies are doing well, with the first child now weighing the same as his brother. They will be released in about a week.

Onofriescu attributed the time lag in the births to a rare congenital condition that gave Tescu two uteruses.

Tescu, a gardener, also has an 11-year-old son.

we take normal childbirth so for granted that we fail to realize that while this story is certainly unusual, it is no more miraculous than "normal"childbirths.

unbelievable story! if she has 2 uteruses, I really don't envy her (double period - I hope she's not Jewish, she'd be in niddah the whole time...but then how could she get pregnant?etc)

Yeah can you imagine...one wek period, then waiting seven clean days in the meantime next period comes along...unless they worked in sync with one another.
Anyway I don't know how they didn't see that she had two uterus' before.
I wonder if it were a Jewish woman with two uterus would she be able to have one removed?

technicly they are not twins, just brothers. and how'd she get pregnant into 2 places? 4 ovaries or just 2? one controls each? thats so wierd. and how does the sperm know to go one little guy into one uterus and the other into the othre?
is this really real?

sometimes hormones get messed up and you ovulate more than once, about a week apart. That was my problem before I got married.

Her periods from both uteri would have to be at the same time, bec. the bleeding is caused by estrogen going down, which would affect both equally. How would she not know? Why would she even look before she got pregnant? And isn't this the forum where so many people think ultrasound is unneccesary....

Interesting fact I came across whilst we are on twin topic Fraternal twins can be fathered by 2 diff men. Since they are not concieved in one go.

And even though usually are born at the same time like a min - hrs apart. One can be born much later since one is more ready then the other.

Rydys a question how come with mine they told me when looking at ultrasound that one was a week ahead acc to dates. How does that work and I have only one uterus guaranteed, doesn't the body shut off after ones preg like days not weeks!!!

you mean one twin was a week ahead? I guess if you ovulated two eggs and one was fertilized right away and one a week later. On the other hand, ultrasound dating at its best is only accurate within one week (meaning that March 1 can be anywhere from a week before to a week after) so I'm not sure that such a fine distinction could be made. It is also possible that one developed a little more quickly than the other as dating is based on measurements.
