Question:
Why isn't kahlua kosher anymore? Is there anyplace one could get kosher kahlua? Are there any good substitutes for kahlua? Your answers would be appreciated! Thanks. Smile

There was one plant in mexico that made kosher kaluah. They decided to change an ingredient and now it is no longer kosher. HOWEVER, they will be going back to making it kosher soon, IY"H. It will carry the OU and only be available in duty fees. All this info is from my father-in-law, a mashgiach for the OU and a few other hashguchas and an avid kaluah drinker.

Smile No. However, I've received "gifts" of various choloate liquors and have never been able to even say a small "L'Chaim" on anything because I couldn't handle the taste. Godiva I actually enjoyed. I can count on my fingers how many times I've had it - brother's wedding, Purim etc.

Besides...I think I told you this, I've been nursing for six years straight...can't quite drink while nursing:)

It's a problem to drink a little bit alchohol while nursing? I have a little bit of chocolate liquer at every shabbos meal.

Nope, not a problem. My midwife told me an occassional drink is fine as long as it's not on an empty stomach. She told me a glass of wine a week (I asked her about drinking wine on Friday nights) is perfectly fine.

First of all, drinking while nursing is different than drinking while pregnant. You can drink alcohol minimally while nursing. My MIL was told by her Dr. to drink a beer before nursing her kids before bed because it would make them drowsy. Having a glass of wine, or a sip of liqueur will not hurt your baby unless they have an allergy to alcohol.
