Ahhhh!!

Okay, so I am making sheva brachos for someone, and sort of thought it was for next wednesday and instead? It's tomorrow.

Soo....it's for the chosson's friends, so I decided to do a BBQ and make it fun and chilled. But as for menu? Planning on doing that next week, ya know.

Does anyone have idea for how I can set this up/recipes/etc that are cute and nice and also inexpensive and BBQ related? That would be so amazing!

lots of salads, french fries, different sauces.

Sorry, I'm not much help, but I do feel for you. I'm kinda in a similar situation. I've been sick the past few days and totally forgot that it is dd's birthday tomorrow! She's only turning to, so I'm seriously thinking of letting it slide, how bad a mother am I?! I didnt even buy a present yet. Maybe we can still do something over the weekend. But I have to work the rest of the week and dh has a huge test. Ahhhhhh.

open with soup - off-topic but filling and good for this time of year. Then bbq wings, skewered meat and veggies (shishkebabs), potato salad, coleslaw, cucumber salad, franks in blankets (full-size or mini, but mini is fancier), grilled vegetables, ice cream and cakes/cookies for dessert.

(Can I come?)

Time is of the essence. Perhaps mutual friends can each bring a dish.

For the soup you could serve chili- it could even be vegetarian if you're going to have a lot of other meat dishes (hot dogs, burgers, grilled chicken etc).... can you get corn on the cob where you are? (idk if its even in season as I can't get it here) pasta salad, I liked another posters idea of shishkabobs, yum!

smore pie for dessert? smores aren't really bbq, more like camping but they have that whole fire theme going for them- and they're yummy.

I don't have a recipe but generally: grahm cracker crust, then use your fave brownie recipe, undercook it, then top w/ marshmallows and broil in the oven for a few minutes til their browned a bit but not burnt.

its a good theme for short notice, you just need to go shopping. hatzlacha

I have made bbq's for about 25 before: Homemade burgers on the grill, franks, pasta salad, pareve caeser salad and any other you can think of, french fries, onion rings, homemade cole slaw, chips and salsa and guacamole, nicely iced cookies that you can buy (maybe with chosson kallah names), ice cream bar with different flavors, toppings, cups or cones.

good luck!

Homemade burgers
Hot dogs
Grilled chicken cutlets
Grilled veggies - peppers, onions, eggplant, zuchhini, sweet potato
cole slaw
pasta salad or lettuce salad
corn salad
sliced veggies: onions, tomatoes, pickles
crackers with dips: matbucha, babganoush, chummus
chips and salsa
BBQ Sauce
mustard
ketchup
Put rolls in woven baskets.

Set up buffet style if that would go with the couple and have a good time.

Dessert - if you have time: grilled peach halves with a scoop of ice cream.

ETA: just saw someone mentinos shisk-kabobs. That is a great idea.

I would make the pasta salad with cubed salami and black olives with grape tomatos. Also homemade cole slaw and the nish nash salad. Have french fries. Also make shish kabobs with chicken cutlets and colorful vegetables make a nices pattern. It's really an easy theme to work with. Good Luck!!!

wif, let us know how it came out and what your final menu was. Good luck and mazel tov!!

I just had one question: If you're close enough to the couple that you are making sheva brachos, wouldn't you have been invited and gone to the wedding? If so, wouldn't it have been impossible to be next wednesday as it would be over a week after the wedding. Just something I was curious about.

All these tips are great. One thing to add for BBQing - canned sliced pineapple is amazing on the BBQ served prettily on the platter with the meats, etc. Alternately, you could use pineapple chunks on the skewers if you do those. (In the summer, we BBQ nectarine halves - YUM.)

Bake potatoes and sweet potatoes and then slice in half lengthwise, brush with oil, S and P, or grill spice mix, then BBQ. Very quick this way.

We don't BBQ much in the winter but now you're getting me in the mood!
