I've never made it before, and kind of threw things together. . .
I sauteed some mushrooms and onions, mixed it together together with 1 lb ground meat, one egg, bread crumbs, and spices. I laid it flat, placed chicken in the middle, and then wrapped it inside. I placed it in a pan, and then put pastrami on top. And then poured tomato sauce on top.

Yep. I'm vegetarian and much prefer milchigs. Still, I like making fleishig Shabbosim for tradition's sake. And b/c DH enjoys felishigs, it's good for him to eat felishigs l'kavod Shabbos.
The first six months we were married I didn't make anything fleishig. I just didn't know how to tackle a chicken! Plus, our oven was milchig. But finally we bought a big, fleishig toaster and each week I'm getting a bit better at making chicken!
Growing up, everyone but my father was vegetarian. We ALWAYS had milchig Shabbosim: gourmet homemade pizza, lasagne, other delicious pasta dishes, etc.
Shavuos was also my favorite Yom Tov, for obvious reasons! And now even more so since almost every Shabbos I make fleishigs.

Binah, what kind of things do you serve for Shabbos day when it has to be cold? Or do you have a pareve / milchige cholent style thing?

Happy: Pg. 261, it's sooo good but loaded with margarine and sugar so I only make it every once and a while.
Carrot: Since I got married and started making fleishigs for my DH, I could count on two hands the number of times I've made a milchig Shabbos. So it's really not something I do a lot anymore. But Shabbos day, whether a milchig/felishig Shabbos, I usually make parve cholent or soup. I've actually never made fleishig cholent. And I'm crazy about salads, so I'll serve 5-6 salads/dips, fish and some cold chicken for DH.

Sounds good. Ever since Defy mentioned that she serves chicken soup Shabbos day, I've been thinking about the soup option. (Nobody in my family likes cholent or cold chicken.) What kind of soups do you make and how do you make sure it stays "soupy"? (I hate when I overcook my soup and it gets a "cholent" flavor.)
