Lately I've been wanting a garden. But the most practical reason I can't have one now is that we simply don't have where to put it. Though maybe I'll get a windowbox and grow some flowers or some herbs. I told my husband this the other day and he told me that I killed the one potted flower we had in the house b/c I never watered it. He said I should get another cheap plant and see if I can be responsile enough for that (!) before I attempt a whole garden!

I have a small veggie garden. 4 tomato plants, 1 zucchini, 2 pepper, basil, oregeno and some carrots. unfortunately it is not doing so well. I have some tomatoes and peppers ripening, the basil is delicious, but the zucchini keeps rotting before it ripens

All kinds of bad plants because we're too lazy to cut! lol
We also have roses, a pear tree, tomatoes, basil and strawberries. And that white flower you give in May http://www.u-blog.net/seniora/img/muguet.gif
Too bad the ants eat more strawberries than we do though!

How does my "garden" grow?

With diaper smells and cracked eggshells-
And nachas from us all in a row!

(I have the opposite of a green thumb, whatever that is. Purple?)

It grows all on it's very own. Confused

All I do is lawn mow it weekly and edge it yrly embarrassed And plant bi annualy .

Our flowers all sorts mainly wild kind,oh I have weeds too Sad

I love the apple tree that we have in our garden and that it's maintenance free Smile

We have a few diff color trees also in our garden wish I knew what they r called but the biggest advantage to our garden is not the esthetics but the birds and sqirrels my babies and dd incl me are just enamoured by Hashems wonderful creation every morning Smile

The only problem is we can only get to enjoy all this for about 4/5 mnths since when the snow sets in everything is covered in alot of snow !

My MIL's garden is wonderful. She has basil, cilantro, thyme, parsley, mint, lemon basil, peas, jalepeno peppers, banana peppers, green peppers, green beans, cucumbers, tomatoes, spinach, onions, eggplant, kale, raspberries and green grapes. I have no idea of the flowers but there are a multitude of types and its so nice to be able to just go outside and pick fresh vegetables for a salad or snack.

For those who grow fresh herbs: how do you check them for bugs?

Not hard. Pick the leaves, soak and check them like you would normally. We have barely any bugs on ours.

I just buy the prechecked ones. Is it hard to check them? Do you need a lightbox or special equipment?

when my herb garden actually was in bloom (as opposed to dead from the wilting sun, as it is now) I had tons of herbs...regular basil, purple basil, verbena, oregano, cilantro, italian parsley and some others that I dont remember. I never had a bug problem, I just rinsed the herbs and enjoyed them. Now I keep them on my kitchen windowsill cuz its too hot to grow herbs in full sun right now in my gardening zone...

we also have a few mango trees, 2 avocado trees, a papaya and a lemon tree and some other tropical plants. they're all very small saplings now and are barely 5 feet tall..Can't wait till they start producing fruit-it will take years!!

One of the benefits of living in a sub-tropical climate, I guess. It definitely makes life more beautiful and I love nature, so it feeds my obsession with growing things. LOL 8)
(and it makes the horrible humidity and heat of this time of year very worthwhile.)
