What is a descent salary for a teacher? Specifically a math teacher. How much to expect per period (40 min class)?

it depends on the city you are in, your experience, and the school you are teaching in.
I taught in a high school for 5+ years and got a salary of $550 a month (pretty much 4.5 periods a week)
when I recently interviewed at a different school (elementary) they were willing to pay $850 a month (same amount of periods maybe slightly longer time per period)
but I know that this new school would have paid me much more if I would have asked.
the difference between my first school and the other schools is my first school makes the payroll easily each month where the other schools cant make their payroll.

do schools pay by period now? when I taught it was salaried with benefits. My husband taught more recently than I did. The most he ever made was $50,000 for a full time position. Not nearly enough. For half time I would expect $20,000- $25,000 I suppose.
