I received this email today,
"One out of every three Israeli Holocaust survivors suffers from financial distress (Data taken from "The Welfare Foundation for Holocaust Survivors", April 3'rd 2006).

On May 21'st 2005, Israeli president Moshe Katzav stated: "I am deeply ashamed of the Government and Kneset's treatment of Holocaust survivors".
Indeed, this is an issue we can not dismiss lightly.
In a few weeks time, discussions regarding the national budget will begin. In the meanwhile our survivors, citizens of Israel, are dependent on welfare funds. Some, are on the verge of hunger. Outside of their financial state, these are people with special needs that require governmental intervention. These are Holocaust survivors, which for the memory of their families and heroism we stand in a moment of silence every year!
So far, the government has passed a budget of seven million NIS for the survivors' benefit, even though this group of people is in need of at least 40 million NIS (9 million US Dollars). Your signature on this petition is a showmanship of your support for passing this budget!
