On the subway, I saw a black woman with a gold Hamsa pendant. Now that's THAT all about?

Surely "Shomer Dalsos Yisroel" does nto apply to her!

read my post, it explains what it is. a small trinket worn around your kneck its basically a small hand. or you can have it hung in your house. its supposed to ward off any bad things.

sarag, I saw an arab lady wearing those scarves that ppl wear. u know, the ones that u tie around the knot many times... I thought she was jewish & then saw the rest of her outfit. I first thought she was wearing her shabbos robe waiting for the train on a monday morning Tongue Out

what, you never saw a nonjew wearing a chai or a mezuzoh or a mogen dovid? or a red string? or an ankh, for that matter? they consider all of these to be good-luck charms. it's called "cultural theft" and is very a la mode.

So??? I didn't say maybe she was FRUM, I said maybe she was jewish. There are black jews living in black communities, too, and they are not necessarily frum. That black jewish gospel singer who was mentioned in the thread about the gospel choir singing "Pischu Li" belongs to an all-black Reform congregation.

there's also a group calling itslef "Black hebrews" or "black Hebrew Israelites" who claim descent from the "original" Children of israel (they insist that Moses was black). while they are not jewsand do not consider themselves to be Jews, they observe elements of various religions including Judaism.
