can we start a sushi dressing/flavoring thread or will it be undermining this thread?

We just made 20 rolls last Shabbos for a big sheva brachos that we hosted. DH was worried about too many leftovers, but it almost all got eaten up. Yum!

Fresh fish is hard to come by here, but if we call certain places in advance, we can find out when they got a new delivery. We've used tuna, salmon, and fake crabmeat. DD makes a great egg thing with heavily beaten egg mixed with sauce and fried very very thin, then cut into strips. We do scallion, peppers (fresh, though now I might try roasted sometime), cucumber, avocado and mango.

We serve it with pickled ginger, soy sauce, and wasabi paste.

I do similar - I mix sushi rice with rice vinegar (about 1/3 cup for 2 cups of raw rice), 1 T of sesame oil, 1 T soy sauce, and a cube of frozen ginger. Then I cut into tiny pieces mango, avocado and red pepper and rip into tiny pieces a sheet of nori and mix that in too! DH has it with the wasabi mayonnaise but I love your idea of drizzling it - so nice for presentation.

Btw, which teriyaki sauce do you use?

It's yum. I actually buy the teriyaki sauce from the sushi guy near my house. Most sushi places will sell you a container of the sauce if you ask them. Otherwise I found that Mikee's sauces have the best consistency.

Yours sounds delicious as well - the rice is probably better with the soy sauce and the ginger and I've never added the nori sheets but I'm definitely going to try it! Btw the easiest way I found to drizzle the sauces is to just put them in a bag before shabbos,and cut a small hole in the corner and store it zip side down in the fridge.

Whats the difference between soy sauce and teriyaki? I noticed that the stores give soy sauce but my SIL uses teriyaki.

Teriyaki sauce is soy sauce with added sugar and spices. Sometimes it is thickened as well.

I discovered quite delicious sushi in Chai's as well. Cheaper than KYO by far, and you get much more for your money. Their salmon tempura is really really delicious.

What's the one you mentioned, called?

Kyo's is definitely great sushi. Have you had the sushi at Le Carne? A bit pricey but amazing
