Can anyone recommend any good Jewish books for 1st graders? We are starting up a classroom library for our 1st grade and I need to come up with a list of about 40 books.
Anyone have any favorites to recommend?

My kids adore the Menucha Beckerman series on Dina-Dai, Michoel and Shuli and Muli. They read them in Hebrew, but they have been translated. I'm not sure if they kept the same names for the characters. There are 30 large-sized books with beautiful illustrations and a message in each one, plus lots of information about both Jewish and general topics. I would say 1st grade is the upper level (suitable from about age 3-4)
There is also a Menucha Beckerman series called "golden heart" suitable for maybe 1st-3rd grade, which is also wonderful. I don't know if they've been translated though.

my 3 oldest love the menucha fuchs series. they like the chapter ones best, but they make a picture book more advanced than her hard pages for younger kids books.

Very simply written but really entertaining and fun is the " junie B. Jones" books. Your first grader will love to read them.
